Atalaya adheres to and promotes the ASTM International Standard Guide for Quality Assurance in Translation.
Each of Atalaya’s translations is completed by a professional translator who is a native speaker of English and who specializes in the subject matter. Following the first-pass translation, a meticulous round of QA proofreading is conducted by a second linguist who is also a native speaker of English. Finally, the translation is reviewed again by the translator before delivery to the client.
Atalaya specializes in large volume projects involving multiple linguists. For large projects involving more than one translator, we maintain consistency between translators throughout the translation process in a number of ways: 1) a project glossary is compiled by the lead translator at project launch and is updated throughout the course of the project; 2) a project TM is created, updated and maintained, and the most recent version of the TM is continuously available to translators; 3) linguists maintain communication throughout the process in order to discuss terminology issues; 4) one lead proofreader is assigned to the project to review all documents and ensure consistency in terminology and style across translations; and 5) each translator conducts a final review of his translation, accepting or rejecting the changes made by the proofreader and finalizing the document for delivery to the client.
Atalaya’s team is well-suited to handle large jobs involving multiple linguists as our team is very accustomed to working together on such efforts.
Despite the rigorous steps of Quality Assurance that every translation goes through, the most important step of the production process is the first-pass translation. For this reason, all of Atalaya’s linguists are qualified by means of a rigorous evaluation process before ever working on a client’s project. New linguists, all of whom are professional translators and experts in their fields of specialization, are hand-selected based on educational background, field of expertise, and translation experience. Before new linguists are brought onto the team, they are screened by means of test assignments, which are reviewed and evaluated by Atalaya's lead linguists.
In addition to this initial screening process, linguists are continually monitored by peers. For every project completed, proofreaders are asked to provide feedback regarding the quality of translation, and translators are, in turn, given the opportunity to review the changes made during proofreading. This enables linguists to continuously improve the quality of their work.
